The JonBenet case was the biggest mystery of the 90's. Possibly being one of the most recognisable names in crime history, JonBenet was found murdered in her own home at the age of six. From the two and a half page long ransom note that was found by her parents to the calmness of her older brother when being questioned at the time, this case has left many unanswered questions.
Was it a paedophile that was watching her at her many beauty pageants, a freak accident caused by her parents or her jealous brother who wanted more attention from his parents?
The severity of her death, asphyxia by strangulation, and also obtaining a broken skull, would make you hope it wasn't somebody that she knew but the lengthy and detailed ransom note adds suspicion to her mother, Patsy's plea of innocence. As it was two pages long, it is noted to be one of the longest ransom noes in American history. It included unnecessary information about who this group of people that supposedly kidnapped her were, an unusual ransom of just over $118,000, the exact same amount of money that Mr.Ramsey received as a Christmas bonus and when tested by hand-writing experts, some of the handwriting matched Patsy's own hand-writing. The ransom note itself was written on a notebook belonging to the Ramsey’s with a felt-tip marker that they owned also. While JonBenet’s parents refused to talk to the police and instead wanted to do press interviews, some felt that the parents were covering up an incident that they had caused. This would make sense as Patsy had a motive because she was annoyed at the fact that JonBenet often wet the bed and with the stress of beauty pageants always lingering, Patsy could have been pushed over the edge and punished her daughter more than she thought.
JonBenet's brother Burke also drew attention to himself when being observed by child psychologists and asked to draw a picture of his family, he excluded his sister just days after her passing. Burke had also struck JonBenet out of anger with a golf club just weeks prior to her murder. The two scars on her side were presumed to be from a taser gun but are also identical to a train track toy set that Burke owns, meaning it is possible that he struck her with the toy as a means of torture or punishment. This points all blame towards the young Ramsey boy but some find a loophole in this theory because it is hard to believe a boy of nine years could possibly hit her hard enough to cause blunt force trauma and be able to tie her up in such a way that she would be unable to breathe.
Seeing as this case was over 20 years ago and still has not been solved, it is hard to believe that the culprit will ever be found especially because one of the main suspects Patsy Ramsey has passed on and the case has been described as cold and not under investigation anymore.
