A six month old baby boy was set on fire in Louisiana by his mother on the instruction of her girlfriend. His mother, Barker, persuaded her girlfriend, Smith, to kill her son because “if she loved her, she would do anything, even if it meant going to jail”. The pair pretended that Levi was kidnapped and later killed, but when police thought their story was suspicious, they admitted to what really happened.

Smith initially tried to shoot Barker’s son but the gun did not work, so Barker told her to set him on fire instead. The baby boy received third degree burns on 90% of his body. He was rushed to hospital by helicopter but died the next day due to the extent of his injuries.

After she was arrested, Barker tried to blame Levi’s dad for the murder, but his alibi was strong so she changed her story to blame Smith, which is when she was revealed as being guilty of planning her own son’s death.

Her trail has been scheduled for 2020, but Barker is likely to receive the death penalty, as she is the one who orchestrated the murder and had the motive to have her son killed. If Smith is found guilty, she will likely face the death penalty also, as she carried out the crime.
