56-year-old hospital worker, George Joseph, was stabbed at Royal Sussex County Hospital in Brighton at about 8.40am on Sunday, 19th July. Connolly Mellon (30) has been charged with attempted murder and is now in police custody. He will appear at Lewes Crown Court in August.

The attack has been described as non-terrorist related, and rather, an unexplained incident. Nobody else was injured during the attack and the victim's injuries were not life-threatening.

Joseph was treated for his five stab wounds and was discharged from hospital later that day. He obtained injuries to the lip, throat, torso and arm.

The hospital went into lockdown and restricted people going in and out, until the incident was fully under control. With many armed police on site, the situation was under control quickly, and the suspect, Mellon, was found nearby within the hour.
