In the case of five US inmates on death row, the death penalty is being reinstated and being scheduled for use in December of 2019 to execute these five men. Usually inmates on death row are put on a waiting list that could last years, but in the case of these five men, their executions have been scheduled immediately as decided by the US Justice Department.

It was the idea of President Donald Trump to increase the use of the death penalty for specific crimes, including drug related crimes and mass shootings. This is due to the growing drug crisis in America as well as the huge problem of mass shootings that have been increasing in recent times.

The death penalty is rejected by countries within the European Union as it is seen as too cruel and inhumane as a way of punishing convicts. There are many mixed opinions on the use of the death penalty , with groups connected to Amnesty International protesting against its use. The method of execution is by lethal injection in The United States.
